These changes reflect the growing demand for white meat over the last century, which prompted the industry’s shift toward supplying chickens with “proportionately larger breasts.”

Dr. Michael Lilburn, a professor at The Ohio State University’s Poultry Research Center, told the Washington Post: “If people continue to eat more and more chicken, chickens will likely have to get even bigger… We’ll also have to increase the proportion of breast meat in each bird.”

“What people don’t understand is that it’s consumer demand that’s forcing the industry to adapt,” Lilburn said of the public’s predilection for cheap chicken nuggets, wings, sandwiches, and other products. “It’s a deceptively small but vocal minority that raises a lot of legitimate questions. Most of the American population still doesn’t care where their food comes from, as long as it’s cheap.”
While fast-food chains and some supermarkets have partially supported the demand for larger breasts, The New York Times reports that some companies are demanding meat from slow-growing chickens, “arguing that giving the birds more time to grow before slaughter will give them healthier, happier lives and produce better-tasting meat.”

Meanwhile, internet users are expressing their disgust with the chicken noodles.

One online fan asks, “They look like worms! What are they feeding us?”

“I got some like this a while back. It looked like this underneath. Things didn’t look as good as they did when we were younger. Much fresher,” another shares.

Other netizens suggested shopping elsewhere: “You’ll find better quality, humanely raised chicken at a local butcher or co-op. I recommend going there to buy the meat.”

And some were inspired to become vegetarians.

“I’m going vegan! There’s too much lab-grown food out there,” one writes, while another adds, “That’s why we’re thinking of becoming pescetarians.”

It’s truly unfortunate that factory farming is causing these poor creatures so much pain in their short lives.
